Motivational Orientations of Learning Japanese as A Foreign Language Among Undergraduates In A Public University In Malaysia

Abstract: Motivation is a key factor in learning foreign language. This study investigated the instrumental, integrative and attitudinal motivation level of students Japanese as FL public university Malaysia. A survey questionnaire based on Gardner’s (1985) AMTB (Attitude/Motivation Test Battery) Dornyei’s (1994) Attitudinal was given to 171 undergraduates. Descriptive Inferential statistics were used analyse data. The results indicated that language learners generally highly motivated learn Moreover, their motivational levels similarly high slightly higher than instrumental motivation. There also statistically significant differences among three subscales viz. teacher-specific, course-specific group-specific. They more oriented towards teacher-specific group-specific implications for EFL teachers curriculum developers are it would improve courses future by designing suitable lessons preparing appropriate materials activities.
